What is our challenge?

To release the untapped potential of built heritage to generate positive societal impact. Here, there are three, interconnected domains of positive societal impact:

  • economic (tourism, job creation),
  • health and wellbeing (physical and mental health, individuals and communities)
  • equality and opportunity (access to, and participation in, education and culture

The Heritage Project uses cutting edge, interdisciplinary research as a means to forge cross-sector partnership and deliver internationally recognised innovation with a significant impact on a local level. This research-led intervention is founded on three core principles:

  • History is to be felt and experienced; plural and inclusive
  • Partnership is collaborative, reciprocal and mutually beneficial
  • Research, teaching and public engagement are integral parts of the same project
